Nest Box Trail Statistics
* We often receive questions about what we do with the nest box trail data we collect. Unfortunately, the North American Bluebird Society no longer asks affiliates to share data with them, and as it now exists, Cornell’s Nest Watch is neither especially user friendly nor is it configured to accept aggregated year end data. So in answer to the question, “What does VBS do with its data?”: We collect and store data for purposes of trending bluebird populations and nesting box success of of Eastern bluebirds, and other secondary cavity nesters in Virginia. In addition to the links below, this data is also available upon request by agencies and entities as an environmental indicator and to ensure long term success of bluebirds and other secondary cavity nesters.
The following table presents the total number of birds fledged on the bluebird nest box trails reported through VBS. These results summarize the combined statistics from nest box trails registered with VBS.
